3 motorcyclists killed in separate accidents

Crashes remain under investigation

ORLANDO, Fla. – Troopers and police are investigating three separate fatal motorcycle accidents in the Central Florida area.

All of the accidents happened within five hours of of each other from Thursday night into early Friday morning.

The first crash occurred at 8:15 p.m. on East Colonial Drive at Rouse Lake Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 21-year-old Troy Thompson, of Orange Park, was heading east on his motorcycle when the driver of a 2004 Audi was heading west and made a left turn.

Troopers said the Audi drove into the path of the motorcycle which collided with the right side of the car.

Thompson was taken to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Meanwhile, the Melbourne Police Department responded to a crash involving a SUV and a scooter on the Eau Gallie Causeway.

According to police, both the SUV and scooter were traveling westbound when the SUV rear-ended the scooter.

Sam Rivers, 19, who was driving the scooter, suffered critical injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at Holmes Regional Medical Center.

A short time later, the FHP responded to a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a motorcycle on U.S. 192 in Osceola County.

Troopers said the motorcycle crashed into the side of the semi as the truck was driving south onto Shady Lane.

The motorcyclist, identified as Rodney Craig Shuttera, 47, of St. Cloud, was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died.

All three crashes remain under investigation at this time and charges are pending.
