ORLANDO, Fla. – A Lake County 15-year-old with a rare brittle bone disease will finally be able to move into his newly renovated home after donations poured in to help his family make their home more accommodating for him.
Drew Brown spends most of his time in bed and despite his disability, keeps a positive attitude and says it's his goal to encourage others.
Local 6 first talked with Drew as he hoped for a new home with wide doorways so he could get through in his wheelchair or stroller with ease.
"I am really excited," Drew told Local 6's Evan Lambert.
Drew and his mother, Mina Brown, were struggling to come up with the money for repairs to their new property in December 2012 and Drew wasn't able to move around his home or have dinners with his mother.
"Now we can go all through the house and Drew doesn't have to sit back in his bedroom," said Brown. "He can go all through the house now."
The house is painted and ready for appliances in cabinets. The house will also have a handicapped-equipped bathroom.
"It's really nice in there," Drew said. "It's very big. It's gonna be a lot of space so that's good."
The Browns said they want to thank everyone who pitched in to make their dream home a reality.
"I was blessed. A lot of people have donated their time, donated money," Brown said. "A lot has been donated into our house. It's just a blessing and I thank everybody for helping me out."
Brown said the house should be ready for them to move in in the next few weeks.
