Driver hit by 17-year-old in chase in stable condition, officials say

ORLANDO, Fla. – Authorities on Friday released the dash camera video from inside a patrol car as a deputy was led on a chase by two teenage girls in a stolen car.

Kayla Stewart, 17, of Winter Springs, and Chelsea Keith, 18, were arrested in the crash, which happened around 2:45 a.m. Thursday on State Road 50 near State Road 417.

A 9-minute chase ensued, with the pickup running several red lights before crashing into a Volkswagen, critically injuring the driver, troopers said. The driver is in stable condition.

In the video, the pickup truck made a U-turn and the deputy followed. The truck then picked up speed, topping at 100 miles per hour at some points. The truck runs a red light, causing the crash into the Volkswagon.

The FHP said Stewart faces several charges, including driving without a license, fleeing and alluding, driving without headlights, running multiple red lights and causing a crash. She is expected to be released from the hospital on Friday and will be taken to the Juvenile Detention Center. Keith also faces several charges.
