Party bike issue dies in Cocoa Beach

COCOA BEACH, Fla. – Cocoa Beach commissioners were unwilling Thursday night to hear a proposal for a party bike business in the city.

Michael Johnson, of Orlando, requested time to pitch a plan to operate a vehicle powered by patrons as they tour the city. He also sought an ordinance to permit alcohol to be consumed on the cycle.

The item died, however, when no commissioner made a motion to discuss the issue after Mayor David Netterstrom announced the agenda item.

City staff had already discouraged a similar business, Sanford-based Limo Cycle Tours, from expanding to Cocoa Beach earlier this summer, citing that the rolling bar would be counter to its goal of being a family oriented resort community.
