ORLANDO, Fla. – Hundreds turned out Friday night to comfort the family of slain Orlando police Master Sgt. Debra Clayton.
Investigators say Clayton was shot and killed Monday morning in front of the Walmart on Princeton Street as she tried to apprehend Markeith Loyd.
Loyd was wanted by police for the killing of his pregnant ex-girlfriend Sade Dixon in December.
"It was kind of heartbreaking to hear what happened," said Gina Riley, a family friend of Clayton, who attended Friday night's visitation at First Baptist Church of Orlando. "I knew I was going to be sad. I knew I was going to tear up. Even with the cops in there, there's a lot of pulling out tissue boxes."
Investigators spent a fifth day searching for Loyd without success, but Orlando Police Chief John Mina repeated his desire to arrest Loyd before Clayton's funeral.
"Long after we catch Markeith -- and we will catch him -- the investigation into who helped him is going to continue," Mina told News 6. "We will not rest until every single person who assisted him in the slightest way will be put in jail and be behind bars."
Clayton's funeral is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Orlando, which is on South John Young Parkway.
After the service, Orlando police said she will be taken to Woodlawn Memorial Park in Gotha, which will cause several streets to close temporarily.
