Marijuana washes ashore on Neptune Beach (WJXT)

A bizarre discovery along a north Florida beach: part of the shoreline littered with loose, unpackaged marijuana.

The drugs were discovered Sunday along Neptune Beach just east of Jacksonville in Duval County.

At first glance, it looked like seaweed, but one beach walker took a closer look and could tell right away it was something much different.

“I did pick it up and smell it to see what it smelled like, and it was weed so I was like okay it’s kind of crazy.”

Neptune Beach Police believe the marijuana may have been packaged but broke up and separated before washing ashore.

Officers say the shoreline has since been cleaned up and they are continuing to investigate how it got there.
