Alligator shows up at Central Florida woman's front door

Neighbors believe gator came from nearby lake

LAKELAND, Fla. – What would you do if a huge alligator showed up at your front door?

It recently happened to a Lakeland homeowner.

Jeanne Smith said she found the gator just inches from her doorstep after her two small dogs suddenly started barking.

Smith said the gator was staring at her dogs, who were standing on the other side of a glass door.

A trapper was called in and managed to remove the gator, which likely came from a nearby lake.

Experts say mating season is approaching and during that time alligators tend to turn up in unusual places as they look for a partner.
