HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - A 6-foot crocodile was spotted on the beach in Hollywood.
A large crowd gathered on the beach Monday morning near Surf Road and Hayes Street to watch the animal, which was motionless for several minutes.
Hollywood police officers stood nearby and taped off a portion of the beach.
Eventually, the crocodile walked toward the ocean and seemed to soak up the salt water.
Wildlife officers eventually caught the large reptile Monday afternoon on Hollywood Beach.
Hollywood spokeswoman Joann Hussey says it was first spotted near the pier in nearby Dania Beach as it drifted south in the Atlantic Ocean. Before the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded, lifeguards were keeping people a safe distance from the creature.
