Orange County traffic engineers have installed, and powered on, a new traffic signal at the intersection of Clarcona Ocoee Road and Gaymar Drive.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a 4-vehicle crash at the same Orange County intersection where five people were killed in a collision this past Thursday. Tuesday night, FHP said a white pickup truck was heading westbound on Clarcona Ocoee Road when it attempted to make a left turn onto Gaymar Drive. This past Thursday, five people were killed in a two-vehicle crash at the same intersection. ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The Clarcona Ocoee Road and Gaymar Drive intersection was a major topic of discussion during Tuesday’s Orange County Community Traffic Safety Team meeting. Orange County traffic engineers will be conducting a traffic study to evaluate if any improvements can be made to make the area safer for drivers. The FHP said the latest wreck was the second deadly crash at the intersection of Clarcona Ocoee Road and Gaymar Drive so far this year. Montes said an investigation is underway to determine if speed was a factor in both of the recent deadly crashes. FHP officials say the investigation into the cause of the latest deadly crash should be completed in the next few months.

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is urging caution on the roads after a concerning rise in fatal crashes across Central Florida. Troopers who are part of Troop D have investigated 35 deaths between Feb. 1 and Feb. 16 of 2021, according to FHP. In the same period last year, there were 11 fatal crashes. Troopers said there hasn’t been one issue behind the uptick, however, most of the crashes were preventable. “Looking at some of these fatal crashes, there were blatant traffic violations that were committed by one driver that caused these fatal crashes,” Montes said.

Troopers said a Dodge pickup was heading west on Clarcona Ocoee Road and a Honda Accord was heading east on Clarcona Ocoee Road. FHP said the 77-year-old driver of the Dodge attempted to make a left turn to head onto Gaymar Road and turned into the direct path of the Honda Accord.
