The albatross lives: Aaron Judge's hard-won, $360 million Yankees deal proves the cost of winning hasn't changed
All 10 of MLB's $300 million hitters played at least two seasons of those deals in their 20s. Unsurprisingly, all of the $300 million deals in baseball history are recent and ongoing, the earliest being Giancarlo Stanton's extension signed in November 2014. Anthony Rendon, who turned 30 in June of the first season of his $245 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels, is perhaps the closest thing to a spiritual successor. Judge believed he was worth more than the $213.5 million the Yankees offered in spring 2022. I'd bet Yankees GM Brian Cashman isn't expecting 39-year-old Judge — or even 36-year-old Judge — to be a five-win player.

The 2023 MLB season will likely be his last. In addition to his many awards, Cabrera is a four-time batting champion, a two-time home run champion and a two-time RBI champion. "I have time to decide, but my goal is to stay in baseball, try to help, because I love baseball," Cabrera continued. With his 21st MLB season looming, Cabrera has already achieved numerous statistical milestones. He'll enter the 2023 season having tallied 3,088 hits, 507 home runs and 607 doubles.

As if eclipsing 60 home runs wasn't enough, New York Yankees star Aaron Judge is also chasing a Triple Crown. For much of the summer, the preeminent 2022 Triple Crown threat appeared to be St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. Is Aaron Judge in line for the Triple Crown? Not that the Triple Crown will necessarily be decided, but it's going to be an interesting four days in the Bronx. 60 — and sparked a game-winning rally — Judge moved into the lead for the AL batting title for the first time.
