Arizonaโs new heat officer said Friday that he is working with local governments and nonprofit groups to open more cooling centers and ensure homes have working air conditioners in a more unified effort to prevent another ghastly toll of heat-related deaths this summer.

Oregon out of top 10 of women's Top 25 after loss to UCLA
11 in the AP Top 25 released a day after the team's 27-game winning streak ended with a two-point loss to then-No. Oregon entered the Top 25 at No. 11 in the 2017-18 preseason poll and moved up a spot in the first regular-season poll that year. The Cardinal were followed by Louisville, UConn, North Carolina State and South Carolina in the poll. Before this season the conference had six teams in the Top 25 in the same week only twice โ on Nov. 17, 2014, and Jan. 14, 2019.
'It's going horribly': College towns fret about census count
The confusion has enormous implications for college towns, which may face severe shortfalls in federal dollars and a dilution of political power. The Census Bureau sought the help of college administrators in getting rosters for off-campus students who left town, but only half of the schools cooperated. From Tempe to places like Bloomington, Indiana, and Gainesville, Florida, the looming undercount could harm college towns across the country. The Census Bureau says college students should be counted where they would have been on April 1 at school if not for the outbreak. College students overwhelm the demography of places with large universities, Poston said.
Pac-12 player group 'disappointed' after commissioner call

The players sent an email to Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott late Friday accusing him of not taking the issues they have raised seriously enough. Leaders of the group have said their movement has more than 400 players from around the conference supporting it. When the players went public with their demands last Sunday, they reached out to the Pac-12 and requested daily meetings with conference officials. We will work on gathering the information listed above and providing it to you as soon as possible, Scott wrote.

The Pac-12 has set Sept. 26 as the start of its 10-game conference-only football schedule. A letter from Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott, dated Aug. 3, was sent to 12 football players leading the #WeAreUnited movement. The players say they have been communicating with more than 400 of their peers throughout the Pac-12. Pac-12 football teams are scheduled to begin preseason practices Aug. 17 and the league's conference-only regular season is set to start Sept. 26.
