MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – A 24-year-old Merritt Island man was killed Monday night in a single-vehicle crash on State Road 528 in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Trevor Cobb died in the crash, which was reported at 10:18 p.m. in the westbound lanes of S.R. 528 near Monument Parkway.

The FHP said Cobb was driving a Chevrolet SUV when it veered off the road and struck a tree.

Cobb, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the SUV and taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died, according to the FHP.

It's not known if alcohol played a role in the crash, which is under investigation.
