ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 64-year-old Altamonte Springs man died Friday about a month after he was struck by an SUV in a hit-and-run crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 8:53 p.m. May 7 on Lee Road, near its intersection with Adanson Street, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the man was walking on a marked crosswalk without a walk signal when the SUV’s driver, identified as 84-year-old Charlotte Sunderman of Maitland, struck the man with the front of a 2019 GMC Terrain while she traveled eastbound on Lee Road, approaching Adanson Street.

The victim suffered critical injuries in the crash and was later taken to the hospital, troopers said.

Sunderman pulled over briefly in a parking lot before driving away eastbound on Lee Road and entering an Interstate 4 on ramp, the report states. An Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputy located the SUV — noting it had damage consistent with the crash — and returned Sunderman to the scene, according to FHP.

Sunderman, accused of leaving the scene of the crash involving serious bodily injury, was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail, troopers said.

Upgraded charges are pending, the report states.

FHP is still investigating.
