High-speed chase in Brevard ends in DUI arrest

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – A high-speed chase through a Brevard County construction zone ended Tuesday night with a violent takedown by a K-9, sheriff’s officials said.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said Franklin Edwards sped away after an off-duty deputy tried to pull him over for driving recklessly on Merritt Island.

The deputy said Edwards reached nearly 80 mph before ditching his car in West Cocoa and running off.

A K-9 found Edwards hiding under a trailer and bit him on the arm to drag him out, officials said.

Edwards was arrested on charges that included DUI and fleeing.
