Deputies seek man accused of holding victim at gunpoint

DELTONA, Fla. – Deputies are looking for a man they say held a victim at gunpoint in Deltona earlier this month while an accomplice stole his truck, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Walter Hager, 38, has been in the Volusia County Jail since Aug. 19, two days after the early-morning carjacking, on unrelated charges. He was charged Friday with principal to carjacking with a firearm and grand theft auto, deputies said.

Gustavo Rivera, 36, is wanted on charges of carjacking with a firearm, use or display of a firearm during a felony offense and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Deputies do not know Rivera's current location.

Anyone with information regarding Rivera's whereabouts is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 888-277-TIPS. Tips may qualify for a reward of up to $5,000.

Authorities said they believe Hager drove to Merrimac Street with Rivera and drove away in the victim's truck after the carjack. Deputies described both men as having "significant criminal histories."

"Rivera has 13 past felony charges related to narcotics, grand theft auto, battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. Hager has 37 past felony charges related to narcotics, burglary, escape, battery, aggravated battery with a firearm, theft, resisting a law enforcement officer without violence and firing a missile into a dwelling, vehicle or building," the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The victim told deputies that he was picking up a coworker around 5:52 a.m. on Aug. 17 when a gray car pulled up and two men got out.

The victim was held at gunpoint while the men stole his truck, authorities said.

The man and his coworker were not injured.
