Cocoa brush fire burns 50 acres

Fire near Grissom Parkway & Mesa Ridge Drive

COCOA, Fla. – Cocoa firefighters, along with Brevard County firefighters, were trying to control a blaze that had scorched more then 50 acres of brush on Sunday.

Firefighters said the fire is near Grissom Parkway and Mesa Ridge Drive.

A Cocoa fire official said the fire was threatening to jump Grissom Parkway, so the road was shut down for several hours Sunday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol's website, all roads were open late Sunday.

Officials said the fire started east of Grissom Parkway in an industrial area and was moving towards homes.

Officials said there were no mandatory evacuations, but some residents had left on their own.
