SeaWorld releases manatee back into wild after rehabilitation

Goodby released after 7 months of rehab for cold stress

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – SeaWorld Orlando has released a manatee on Tuesday into the St. John's River near Jacksonville after 7 months of rehabilitation.

The nearly 1,000-pound manatee, named Goodby, was rescued due to cold stress in March 2012 from Goodby Creek, where he got his name.

This was the eighth manatee return of 2012. Since the program's inception in 1973, SeaWorld has rescued 469 manatees and returned 244 back to their natural habitat, according to SeaWorld officials.
