ORLANDO, Fla. – The judge in the George Zimmerman murder case signed subpoenas on Thursday allowing his attorneys to have access to Trayvon Martin's school records.
Attorney Mark O'Mara has said the slain teen's school records could come into play at Zimmerman's upcoming murder trial to show the teen's prior problems.
Martin's records will be obtained from Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High, Miami Carol City High School, Norland Middle School and Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Lawyers for Martin's family had previously fought the release saying the teen's background is irrelevant to what happened on Feb. 26, the night Martin was shot and killed.
Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and claims he shot Martin, 17, in self-defense, citing Florida's "stand your ground" law.
A trial is set for June, but a "stand your ground" hearing could be held by April.
