SANFORD, Fla. – A natural gas line in Sanford was capped Thursday, hours after being ruptured by construction workers.
The gas break happened around 2:45 a.m. along U.S. Highway 17-92, just north of Airport Boulevard, forcing officials to close 17-92 in the area.
According to firefighters, construction crews were installing street lights in the area when heavy equipment damaged the gas line.
The rupture caused natural gas to spray from the ground for several hours, officials said. No injuries were reported.
Northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 17-92 reopened around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
