Winter Park High School locked down over social media threat

Extra police patrols added to campus

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Police say they are in the process of lifting the lock down at Winter Park High School  after of a threat was made on social media.

School officials said the high school and Ninth Grade Center were placed on modified lockdown.

Police said a student copied a threat made on social media from a West Virginia incident and sent it to some Winter Park High School students.

In a phone message to parents, WPHS Principal Tim Smith said the threat was discovered Sunday night and the school was being "extra cautious."

In the message, Smith said police would be patrolling the campus and classrooms would remained locked during classes.

Police said just after noon on Monday they were in the process of lifting the modified lockdown.
