Marion teen arrested on murder charges in stepfather's death

Sidney Ferguson, 19, shot Johnathon Thurman in argument, deputies say

OCALA, Fla. – A Marion County teen was arrested on murder charges in the shooting death of his stepfather as the teen's mother looked on, deputies said Tuesday.

Sidney Ferguson, 19, was arrested late Monday on charges of second-degree murder in the death of Johnathon Thurman.  Ferguson is being held on no bond.

Marion County sheriff's deputies said they received a 911 call around 11 p.m. Friday reporting a shooting. When they arrived at a home in Marion Oaks, they found Thurman with a gunshot wound. He later died at the hospital, according to investigators.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Ferguson's mother, Angie Norman said her son had called her and stated that he was on his way to her house.  Thurman, however, did not want Ferguson at the home, deputies said.

When Ferguson arrived at the home, he and Thurman met in the front yard and began to argue, deputies said.  Ferguson pulled out a silver handgun and shot Thurman two times, deputies said.

Ferguson then stood over Thurman and shot him one more time, the Sheriff's Office said.  According to deputies, Norman then laid on top of Thurman to shield him from anymore shots and called 911.
