Man dies in Citra house fire, Marion County Sheriff’s Office says

CITRA, Fla. – A man is dead following a house fire in Citra late Monday night.

Around 11:30 p.m., crews responded to the 1500 block of NE 162nd Street after reports of a house fire. When crews arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames, the sheriff’s office said.

Firefighters attempted to rescue an adult male who was unable to escape the home. He was found deceased at the scene. Once the flames were extinguished, Marion County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes detectives responded to begin a death investigation, deputies said.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The state fire marshal is investigating.
