NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A man is dead and another man has been taken to the hospital after a crash in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
It happened after 7:30 p.m. Friday on State Road 44 at Genesis Way in New Smyrna Beach.
A vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed west on S.R. 44 when it left the roadway and rolled halfway into a tree, troopers said.
The vehicle's roof hit the tree, according to FHP.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in an unknown condition. Troopers said the passenger of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The two were described as men in their 20s.
