2 dead, 2 injured when man causes crash after losing consciousness

Man crashes into 2 golf carts; pedestrian struck by golf cart

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – Two women in a golf cart were killed in a chain reaction crash Saturday in Sumter County.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, David Martin McCurry, 58, was driving was driving through the intersection at County Road 466A and Morse Boulevard when he suffered a medical emergency and became unconscious.

Due to becoming unconscious, McCurry veered onto the shoulder of the road and struck a speed limit sign, then struck the right outside mirror of a golf cart driven by Kevin Earl Bruce, 62. McCurry 's vehicle continued on, striking the back of a second golf cart driven by Nancy Ann Vonnstitz, 66.

Vonnstitz's golf cart continued to be pushed by McCurry's vehicle, causing her to run off the curb, into shrubbery and strike a pedestrian.

Vonnstitz and her passenger, Marsha K. Edgar, 68, both died as a result of their injuries from the crash.

The pedestrian, Brian David Williams, 38, suffered serious injuries.

McCurry also suffered serious injuries.
