Treasury Department plans to put female face to $20 bill

$20 bill and $10 bill to be redesigned

A female face may be added to the front of the $20 bill, not the $10 bill sources tell CBS News the Treasury Secretary.

According to WTSP, the agency planned to announce by the end of last year which woman would be on the $10 bill, but it became more complicated than expected.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew revealed a woman would be included on the newly designed $10 bill last June, but didn't imagine that a Broadway musical would lead to the controversy.

The success of "Hamilton" brought new supporters to the cause. Hamilton now is expected to stay on the $10 bill while an array of women throughout history will be included on the back.

Along with the new additions expected to the $10, an announcement is expected regarding the $20 bill.

The announcement is to reveal the woman who will eventually be on the front of the $20 bill.

Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, and Eleanor Roosevelt are all candidates to be the face of the bill.

It won't be until 2020 that the $10 bill goes into circulation due to the currency redesign process, and the $20 bill would come a while after.

The announcement is expected this week.
