Constructions opens path for 24,000-acre home development

$62 million project impacts east Orange County commuters

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Construction began Tuesday on a $62 million road project that will impact thousands of drivers in east Orange County.

Plans for the project extend Innovation Way south to State Road 528 and remove the interchange at International Corporate Boulevard.

The new exchange will give drivers a more direct route to the Beachline Expressway.

"That would even make things easier because you don't have to take that curve to go by the jail and come back up on the 528," said Avalon Park resident Charles Figueroa.

Construction will also extend Innovation Way to the south, which will make way for a 24,000-acre development in the eastern most parts of Orange and Osceola Counties.

The Sunbridge community is planned to bring more than 7,000 homes to an area south of the Beachline Expressway.

Groundbreaking for the development is scheduled to happen once work on the Innovation Way project is finished in early 2018.
