Deputies investigate fatal shooting of 23-year-old man in Apopka
Man killed near Apopka home
APOPKA, Fla. – A 23-year-old man was fatally shot in a south Apopka neighborhood Friday afternoon, officials with the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies responded to the shooting call at 2 p.m. at 135 Chisholm Street near Washington Avenue. The victim, who was later identified as Brandon Anglin, was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation shows that Anglin did not live at the home near where he was found.
Homicide investigators are working to determine what led to the fatal shooting, Orange County Sheriff's Office Capt. Angelo Nieves said.
Detectives continue to search for the person responsible.
"It's kind of, like, should I cry the whole entire time? All I can really do is pray," Shayna Anglin said.
Loved ones held each other close after hearing that Anglin was found dead in the yard of a home.
"Once deputies arrived, they located a male, young black male in his 20s, shot from gunshot wounds," Nieves said.
Deputies said they responded to the shooting Friday afternoon and quickly blocked off the area to investigate.
"This is a tragic situation commencing the new year, a homicide in this area, so we want to make sure we do everything we can," Nieves said.
Detectives have been very tight-lipped about the details of the case and aren't saying how many shots were fired.
"We're going to do our part. We're going to bring the individual that's responsible for this shooting to justice, but we also need the community's help as well," Nieves said.
"I just want whoever did this to come forward, because if it was them or the other way around, anybody would feel the same way," Anglin said.
Deputies are urging the community to help. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
