ORLANDO, Fla. – A man is dead after a house fire Sunday night in the 1100 block of West South Street in Parramore, according to Orlando Fire Department officials.
Family members have identified the victim as Charlie B. Troutman, 67, of Orlando.
When emergency crews arrived on the scene, the house was fully involved with flames. Firefighters said they had to pull the man from the home.
Troutman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he later died. Four other people are currently displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting.
Orlando Fire Department investigators have ruled the fire accidental with an undetermined cause.
"Just knowing he had to lose his life like that in a fire because I can only imagine what he went through," said the victim's stepdaughter, Rachel Woodson.
Woodson said for her family, moving forward seems nearly impossible.
"This is like a real burden for my family. We’re moving, finding somewhere to stay at and burying him," Woodson said.
The family is torn apart after losing everything. Neighbor Mattie Pearson saw the whole thing.
"He was a kind man, everyone in the neighborhood knew him, yes, Charlie B. I saw flames coming all out of the window and the house was smoked all up," Pearson said.
The family said a working smoke alarm could have made a big difference.
"Even though he was disabled, he would have still been able to hear the alarm go off and it possibly, maybe, he wouldn’t be dead right now," Woodson said.
The Orlando Fire Department went door to door installing free smokes alarm for nearby residents in need Monday.
Troutman's family has created a GoFundMe to help pay for his funeral expenses.
