16-year-old girl shot in Cocoa during dispute, deputies say

Incident stemmed from earlier dispute

COCOA, Fla. – A 16-year-old girl was airlifted to a hospital after being shot Tuesday evening in Brevard County, deputies said.

Deputies said the shooting happened on Grace Avenue in Cocoa after 7:19 p.m.

Investigators said the shooting stemmed from an earlier incident between a man who lived at the Grace Avenue home and a another man. After arguing, the visitor left and returned, starting another altercation. During the second incident, deputies said a firearm was discharged, hitting the teenager.

The victim was in serious but stable condition, according to police.

An investigation is ongoing, but no other details have been released.
