Police launch homicide investigation

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A 26-year-old man was shot and killed Monday night inside a Melbourne home, police said.

The fatal shooting was reported just after 9:30 p.m. on Lipscomb Street.

Melbourne police said the victim, Lemonta Rashard Wynn, got into an altercation with another person and was shot in the torso. He was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he died, police said.

Detectives are talking to witnesses to find out what led to the shooting.

A 911 caller talking dispatchers can be heard speaking to Wynn who was shot on his side.

"Lemonta, Lemonta, Lemonta," the caller says over and over, the victim can be heard moaning in the 911 call.

Wynn's cousin told News 6 he was originally from Vero Beach and had moved to Melbourne.
Wynn's cousin also said he had a son.

Meanwhile, police said gunshots were fired not far from the home, near University Boulevard and Monroe Street, but no one was hurt. It's not known if the shootings are related.

Lipscomb Street resident Dwight Green said he's afraid of the violence.

"It just makes the neighborhood unsafe," Green said. "I stay away from them because they will hurt you. You'll get killed," he said.

No other details about the shooter have been released.
