Orlando to be No. 1 destination for Thanksgiving travelers, AAA says

1.82 million passengers expected at OIA over 14 days

ORLANDO, Fla. – As the holiday travel season approaches, officials with Orlando International Airport are preparing for what's expected to be a record amount of travelers.

According to AAA, the Orlando metro area is predicted to be the most popular Thanksgiving destination in the country this year.

Officials said the busiest travel day at the airport will be Saturday, Nov. 24, with more than 152,000 passengers in the terminal.

"When passengers arrive at Orlando International Airport this holiday season, they will see just how busy we have been over this past year, enhancing their overall airport experience," Greater Orlando Aviation Authority CEO Phil Brown said. "We have been preparing for this extremely busy time of the year and we are ready."

Brown said enhancements have been added to the airport parking system, which includes more than 22,000 spaces.

Parking Garage C was opened in late 2017 and now offers a reduced price of $17 per day.

"Park at the garage, you can get on the Automated People Mover," Brown said. "It's a three-minute ride up there. It delivers you right at the Hyatt atrium."

Officials with the Transportation Security Administration urged travelers to pack sensibly this holiday season and visit www.tsa.gov to learn more about what items are prohibited in carry-on luggage.
Lines are expected to be long during peak travel hours, but officials said extra measures have been taken this year to ensure things move quickly.

"We have lots of staffing," Security Director Jerry Henderson said. "More K-9s this year than last, it should go very smoothly and very quick."

A total of 1.82 million passengers are predicted for the 14-day travel period from Nov. 15 until Nov. 28.
