Sheriff's spokesman Tom Raulen said Croy had been diving about four miles offshore between Wabasso Beach and Sebastian Inlet when the captain of the boat noticed Croy had not resurfaced as expected. The captain got into the water to search for the missing diver.

Raulen said Croy was found near the dive site in "relatively shallow water." He was unresponsive at the time and CPR was performed. An Indian River County Fire Rescue boat took Croy to shore. Raulen said Croy was taken to a hospital where he died.

Investigators have seized Croy's diving equipment as evidence and interviewed witnesses. Raulen said there was no immediate indication any crimes had occurred, but said an investigation of the death is ongoing.
