Orlando man killed in Polk County crash, troopers say

Crash happened around Monday at intersection of U.S. 27 and RWS Ranch Road

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 44-year-old Orlando man was killed when his pickup slammed into the side of a tractor-trailer at the intersection of U.S. 27 and RWS Ranch Road in Polk County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the man was driving a 2021 Toyota Tundra south on U.S. 27 around 5:24 a.m. Monday as the tractor-trailer was traveling east on RWS Ranch Road.

The big rig was in the process of turning left onto U.S. 27 when the pickup smashed into the trailer, investigators said.

A picture from the scene shows almost the entire cab of the pickup wedged underneath the trailer.

The 44-year-old died at the scene. Troopers have not released his name.

The driver of the semi was not hurt.

Troopers have not said who was at fault for the crash or whether the trucker could face any charges or citations.
