SANFORD, Fla. – Golf Cart Gurus, a business that — as the name might imply — deals in golf carts and parts, is hosting a city-wide race through Sanford May 29 to benefit U.S. service members.

The “2nd Amazing Race,” as the group calls it, will allow teams of two-to-four people to participate in competitions at a variety of businesses throughout Sanford, starting from Celery City Craft Beer Garden and ending at George’s Tavern.

The competition is set to run from 1 - 6 p.m. with registration starting at noon, and the event’s summary states it will take contestants through “challenges, tasks, puzzles and obstacles” at 13 different Sanford businesses, including:

  • George’s Tavern
  • Celery City Craft Beer Garden
  • West End Trading Co.
  • Hollerbach’s Willow Tree Café
  • Throwbacks
  • Torch One Cigar Bar
  • The Basin
  • Wop’s Hops Brewing Co. and Kitchen
  • Kenscoins
  • Sanford Avenue Tavern
  • 1st Street Lounge
  • The Yardery
  • Dees Brothers Brewery

According to the business, attendees can participate with golf carts, bicycles, motorcycles or even on foot. The business said there will be a trophy and prizes for 1st place, best challenge and cart-costume contest winners, among others.

Golf Cart Gurus stated there will be no food or alcohol challenges involved in the competition.

Tickets start at $15 per person for early registration and $20 per person starting May 25. The group is also asking for $40 donations from each team.

Proceeds will go toward Just Our Soldiers’ Helpers, a nonprofit group that puts together care packages for deployed troops.
