BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – An investigation is underway after a dog was allegedly struck by a Brevard County patrol car, which then left the scene, according to Sheriff Wayne Ivey.
In a video statement on Thursday, Ivey said the incident was reported in the past week by a local resident.
“They saw one of our... patrol vehicles strike a dog and then continue, didn’t stop, didn’t try to render aid or anything,” Ivey stated. “And look: I understand that accidents happen, but it’s the afterthought that has me spun up and I think has everybody else spun up.”
As a result of the incident, Ivey said he’s authorized an internal investigation to figure out exactly what happened.
Furthermore, Ivey said his agency will take care of any vet bills incurred on the dog’s behalf.
“The dog is doing well at this point,” Ivey continued. “I just had the dog checked on earlier today.”
