Orange County residents: You could have unclaimed checks

Find out how to check to see if you're owed cash

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – More than 5,000 checks made out to Orange County residents are being held at the Clerk of Court's office, and one of them could belong to you.

The checks -- worth anywhere from a few pennies to up to $4,000 -- were written and mailed, but never cashed, possibly because the recipient forgot to take the check to the bank or because they changed addresses and never received it.

The Orange County Clerk of Courts has listed those checks on its website so Orange County residents can check to see if they're owed cash. The checks include cash bonds, vendor payments and jury checks.

“Our customers deserve to receive the money that is rightly theirs,” Clerk of Courts Tiffany Moore Russell said in a news release. “That is why every year we go above and beyond to spread the word about our unclaimed checks list.”

Residents have until Sept. 1 to collect their unclaimed checks before they're considered forfeited and deposited into the Clerk’s Fine and Forfeiture Fund.
