Orlando man attempts to hide from police in lake, tries to drown K-9, police say

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando man accused of stealing a Dodge Avenger will also be charged with attempting to drown a police dog after authorities say he tried to hurt the K-9 while fleeing police.

An Orlando police officer said they spotted Thomlinson Devon, 20, driving the stolen car on South Kirkman Road Saturday and attempted to make a traffic stop. Devon fled and police pursued the Dodge in a chase until the suspect stopped at Deaville Road and Alhambra Drive, according to the arrest report.

Police said Devon ran into a nearby neighborhood and jumped in Lake Deauville to hide from authorities. K-9 units closed in on Devon, allowing police to arrest him. An officer said they observed Devon try to drown his police dog when the dog "latched onto" Devon, according to the report.

Devon was treated at Health Central Hospital for a dog bite on his right hand and some scratches

Police were unable to contact the owner of the stolen vehicle.

Devon is charged with grand theft, attempting to elude police, battery on an officer, resisting arrest with violence, resisting arrest without violence, attempting to injure a police dog and driving without a valid driver's license.
