ORLANDO, Fla. – Noor Salman, the wife of Pulse nightclub shooter Omar Mateen, appeared briefly Wednesday in Orlando federal court.
Wearing a yellow shirt and grey sweatpants, to not disclose at which jail she is being held, Salman,31, only spoke once to the judge.
The courthouse where Salman's arraignment was conducted is less than two miles from the Pulse nightclub, where Mateen shot and killed 49 people and injured more than 50 others on June 12.
The judge asked her if she understood the charges against her, Salman said, "I do."
Salman's attorney, Fritz Scheller, entered a not guilty plea on her behalf.
Scheller said his client arrived in Central Florida as recently as Wednesday. Scheller told News 6 that Salman has a long road ahead of her, but "she's fine."
Salman was arrested in California earlier this year on charges of helping her husband scout potential shooting targets before the shooting at the gay nightclub.
The criminal charges were filed in Orlando, but the detention hearing was held in Oakland, California, because Salman was living in the Bay Area at the time she was taken into custody.
Salman was interviewed by the FBI after the shooting. Agents said they believe that Salman was not telling the truth about her husband's plans to carry out the shooting, court records showed.
A California judge ruled in March that Salman could be released from custody on $500,000 bail, but a judge in Florida later revoked that bail and ordered that she remain in jail until her trial.

A deputy U.S. marshal who brought Salman into court told News 6 that she is being held in a general population facility but would not say which one.
Salman's next status hearing is April 20. Her trial is set to begin the week of June 5.
