Stolen car recovered, but puppy still missing

Victim left her car running with AC for dog

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The Orange County Sheriff's Office got results on crime Monday tracking down a car stolen from a Tallahassee woman.

But when the car was returned to Kaeleen Flanagan, her dog -- which was inside the car when it was stolen -- was still missing. The vehicle was returned filled with clothes and a joint, she said.

"He was super scared when I first got him," Flanagan said of her dog, Buster. "I finally got him back to a playful puppy, so loving."

Now, Flanagan worries the training may be out the window and Buster is all alone.

Flanagan said she ran into a grocery store in Tallahassee Wednesday and left the car running with Buster inside. She said it was hot outside, so she left the AC on for him.

"Three minutes later, my car was gone and (Buster) was gone, along with $500 cash," Flanagan said.

Orange County sheriff's deputies tracked down the stolen car around 3 a.m. Monday on North Orange Blossom Trail near Sand Lake Road. Deputies found 29-year-old Michael Jenkins in the driver's seat, but Buster the dog was nowhere to be found.

Michael Jenkins, 29, was found driving a stolen car in Orange County, deputies say.

"I'm glad I have the car back, but honestly I'm still concerned about the dog because everything else is replaceable; his life isn't," Flanagan said.

What Flanagan did find in her car after she picked it up from an impound lot Monday was a trunk full of clothes, a hammer, a lighter and what looks like a rolled-up joint-- which Flanagan said is not hers. Deputies took the items in as evidence.

Meanwhile, Flanagan is hoping someone finds Buster.

"I just want justice for that poor dog," she said. "Not knowing where he is, if he's OK, it's just traumatizing."

Anyone with information about Buster is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office.

Jenkins is locked up in the Orange County jail on a grand theft auto charge.
