Three rescued from capsized boat in Indian River

Witnesses flag down passing boater to help

MELBOURNE, Fla – Three people had to be rescued early Saturday morning after their boat capsized in the Indian River. 

Melbourne Police say the 12-foot boat was hit by a strong wave and overturned near the Eau Gallie causeway just before 1am.

People fishing on the bridge heard the victims in the water screaming for help and called 911. 

Police responded and were preparing to launch boats into the river when they say a another passing boater heard the screams for help. The boater picked up the two men and one woman who were treading water. 

No injures were reported.
