MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A single-engine plane crashed in Lake Weir this morning according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA said that it crashed at around 8:30 a.m. under unknown circumstances. Two people were on board but their status remains unknown. The crash remains under investigation. A driver was killed late Friday in a Marion County crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The fatal wreck was reported on SE Sunset Harbor Road near Lake Weir. The FHP said a car struck a utility marker and a road sign before hitting a pole and catching fire. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Man killed in jet ski collision on Lake Weir
Happened about 3 p.m. Sunday near Gator JoesOCKLAWAHA A 39-year-old man died on Sunday following a collision between two jet skis on Lake Weir, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). "Cody Carson was involved in the collision and later succumbed to his injuries at Ocala Regional Medical Center. (FWC is) conducting an investigation of the accident, " FWC Public Information Officer for Northeast Region of Law Enforcement Chad Weber wrote in a brief statement on Monday. Weber indicated the collision occurred about 3 p.m. on the lake near Gator Joe's Restaurant. The area was busy with bathers and boaters with summer-like temperatures later Sunday afternoon.

The boat ramps at Carney Island remain open. Two docks on Lake Weir in the Carney Island Recreation and Conservation Area were damaged during a storm last month and are closed for repairs. The main floating dock and the personal watercraft dock are unsafe, according to a press release from Marion County. The county says visitors to the park, at 13275 SE 115th Ave. in Ocklawaha, should stay clear of the work zones and off the docks due to broken connectors. The boat ramps at Carney Island remain open.
