Solar Bears blank Stingrays 3-0 at Amway

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orlando Solar Bears blanked the South Carolina Stingrays 3-0 Tuesday night at the Amway Center. The Solar Bears have now won three of their last four games and they are now 4-5-1 with nine points. Orlando finished 2-3 on the power play Tuesday with goals from Joe Carroll and Ross Olsson. Orlando police help shop for Boys & Girls Club members

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando Police Officers rolled into Academy Sports + Outdoors Friday on a mission to shop, not for themselves, but for 10 kids at the Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida. These children would not have anything to open on Christmas if it wasn’t for the community and this event,” said Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida V.P. While the officers were inside, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer was outside dressed as Santa for the morning, raising money for the Boys & Girls Club on the radio. Orlando police officers and Shades, with the Orlando Solar Bears, went on a shopping trip for 10 children this Christmas. Academy Sports also donated some equipment to the Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida and presented them with $1,000, a gifts they hope will help support local kids through after school programming and mentorship.

Atlanta Gladiators defeat Solar Bears 3-2

ATLANTA, Georgia – The Atlanta Gladiators defeated the Orlando Solar Bears 3-2 at the Infinite Energy Arena on Friday. Orlando scored first in the game. The Solar Bears would make it a one-goal game with six minutes left, but they could never get the game-tying goal. The Gladiators put up 39 shots on Friday, the Solar Bears put up 33. Atlanta was 0-4 on the power play.

Solar Bears beat the Admirals 4-0

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears defeated the Norfolk Admirals 4-0 at the Amway Center on Friday. The Solar Bears scored in every period. Orlando’s Alexander Kuqali scored a goal about nine minutes into the game and the team never looked back. The Solar Bears will play against the Admirals on Saturday. The game will start at 7 p.m.

Stingrays defeat Solar Bears 3-0

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears (21-19-5-1) peppered South Carolina Stingrays (33-9-3-1) goaltender Logan Thompson with 34 shots on goal, but the rookie netminder turned aside all attempts to earn his third shutout of the season and deal Orlando a 4-0 loss on Thursday night the Jewett Orthopaedic Rink at Amway Center. The game remained tied at 0-0 through two periods of play, but South Carolina capitalized on a second-period power play that carried over into the third, as Branden Troock one-timed a shot past Clint Windsor 27 seconds into the third frame. Orlando’s best chance in the game came during a 5-on-3 man-advantage several minutes later, but the Stingrays were able to kill off both penalties. Clint Windsor took the loss for Orlando with 24 saves on 27 shots against; Thompson picked up the win for South Carolina going 34-for-34. Goaltender Mike Condon to join Solar Bears, reassigned from Syracuse Crunch

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have announced that the Tampa Bay Lightning have reassigned goaltender Mike Condon to the Solar Bears from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League. Condon, 29, joins Orlando after posting a 3-2-1 record in six appearances with Syracuse this season, sporting a 4.10 goals-against average and a save percentage of .877. Condon has appeared in 43 career ECHL matches with the Wheeling Nailers and Ontario Reign, going 26-13-4 with seven shutouts, a 2.11 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage. NEXT GAMES:The Solar Bears conclude their four-game road trip when they visit the Florida Everblades tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Hertz Arena. Solar Bears nail the Nailers, earn series split

– Alexey Lipanov broke a 2-2 tie in the second period with his team-leading sixth power-play goal of the season, and Rich Boyd enjoyed a two-point night to help lift the Orlando Solar Bears (20-18-5-1) to a 5-2 win over the Wheeling Nailers (20-19-5-0) on Saturday night at WesBanco Arena, and earn a split of the two-game weekend series. With the goal, Lipanov now owns the Solar Bears’ single-season record for power-play goals scored by a rookie, passing the previous mark of five shared with Trevor Olson (2018-19), Brent Pedersen (2018-19), J.J. Piccinich (2017-18), Milos Bubela (2016-17) and Jack Rodewald (2015-16). After Lipanov pulled Orlando ahead in the second period, Taylor Cammarata netted an unassisted power-play goal at 4:42 of the third for his 10th of the season. Solar Bears hosts thousands of Central Florida students for day of STEM activities

ORLANDO, Fla. – Nearly 13,000 Central Florida students attended the Orlando Solar Bears’ recent third annual School Game. The field trip to the Amway Center combines hands-on STEM activities with the fast-paced action of a live hockey game. Businesses including Mad Science set up interactive booths and displays around the Amway Center. "A lot of bright minds and just being able to five them the utensils to get their hands on and stimulate their creativity,” Valen Eberhard, with Mad Science, said. “It’s amazing the products they come up within the end.”To find out when you can catch the Solar Bears in action, click here.

Solar Bears netminder Clint Windsor named goaltender of the week

The Orlando Solar Bears announced that goaltender Clint Windsor has been named the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Nov. 4-10 by the ECHL. Windsor went 1-1-1 with a 1.95 goals-against average and a save percentage of .946 in three appearances last week. Last season, he went 4-2-1 in eight appearances for the Solar Bears with a 2.48 goals-against average and a save percentage of .926. During his senior season, Windsor was named the Goaltender of the Year for Ontario University Athletics after leading all USports goaltenders with a save percentage of .930. Windsor went 26-49-10 with one shutout, a 4.24 goals-against average and a save percentage of .913 in 100 total OHL contests.

Solar Bears sign Pierre-Luc Mercier

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears have agreed to terms with forward Pierre-Luc Mercier for the 2019-20 season. "Pierre-Luc is going to bring a dynamic skillset to our roster," Solar Bears head coach and general manager Drake Berehowsky said. Mercier, 26, joins Orlando after splitting the 2018-19 campaign between the Rapid City Rush and Manchester Monarchs, posting totals of 47 points (13g-34a) and 39 penalty minutes in 66 combined games. "I'm very excited for the opportunity to play in Orlando," Mercier said. In 134 career ECHL games with Manchester, Rapid City and the Adirondack Thunder, the 6-foot-1, 179-pound forward has accumulated 89 points (30g-59a) and 73 penalty minutes.

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears have completed a transaction with the Brampton Beast, acquiring the rights to defenseman Austin McEneny in exchange for future considerations. Austin is a smart, puck-moving defenseman who has the potential to take a major step forward in his development this year, Solar Bears head coach and general manager Drake Berehowsky said. Were excited to have acquired him.McEneny appeared in 43 regular season games with Brampton during the 2018-19 campaign, his first season of professional hockey. McEneny also chipped in two assists and two penalty minutes in six playoff contests for the Beast. Im looking forward to playing with the team thats been assembled by the coaching staff, McEneny said.

Solar Bears sign rookie forward Ryan Tait

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears have agreed to terms with rookie forward Ryan Tait for the 2019-20 season. Ryan is going to be a solid addition to our club, Solar Bears head coach and general manager Drake Berehowsky said. In 138 career games for the Friars program, the 5-foot-10, 183-pound forward tallied 30 points (14g-16a) and 22 penalty minutes. I couldnt be more excited to be joining the Solar Bears for the coming season, Tait said. The Orlando Solar Bears open their eighth season of ECHL hockey against the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.

Solar Bears sign free agent forward Jimmy Lodge

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears have agreed to terms with forward Jimmy Lodge for the 2019-20 season. We feel there is a lot of upside in adding a player such as Jimmy to our roster, Solar Bears head coach and general manager Drake Berehowsky said. He added one assist and two penalty minutes in six games with Manitoba. Im really excited about the opportunity to join the Solar Bears organization this season, Lodge said. In 114 career AHL contests for Manitoba and the St. Johns IceCaps, he has added 25 points (11g-14a) and 46 penalty minutes.

Models needed for Orlando Solar Bears ad campaign

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears are hosting an open call Monday to find fans and models to feature in the team's new advertising campaign, "I AM A SOLAR BEAR." The casting call is being held at the RDV Sportsplex Ice Den, located 8701 Maitland Summit Blvd. in Orlando from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.12 winners will be selected for the hockey team's ad campaign and will be featured in web, billboard, and Amway Center in-arena advertising. One grand prize winner will also appear in The Orlando Sentinel and Orlando Magazine, as well as on billboards and venue advertising including the Amway Center JumboTron and Solar Bears collateral materials. The Orlando Solar Bears will begin playing in the ECHL at the Amway Center in October 2012.
