A federal judge has temporarily prohibited the University of Florida from enforcing a policy that restricted faculty members from providing expert testimony in cases that conflict with positions taken by the state of Florida.

Doctors at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine recently conducted surgery to get a shoe out of a crocodile’s stomach after she swallowed it. Anuket, a nearly 11-foot croc, came to UF Veterinary Hospital on Feb. 5 to remove the offending footwear. After a short while, the team was able to remove the shoe.
Former University of Florida Researcher Indicted for Scheme to Defraud National Institutes of Health and University of Florida
The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury on Dec. 15, 2020, was unsealed today. “The FBI will always investigate those who break the law by taking federal money while hiding their foreign business and government ties. Among other things, Yang was required to disclose his foreign research support and financial conflicts of interest, including his ownership of, or interest in, a foreign company. Yang traveled to China in August of 2019 and has yet to return to the United States. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen M. Kunz for the Northern District of Florida is prosecuting the case with assistance from the National Security Division’s Counterintelligence & Export Section.

With the coronavirus shutting down state university campuses in March, at least two potential class-action lawsuits have been filed seeking refunds of money that students paid for the spring semester. The lawsuit filed Monday on behalf of Egleston alleges breach of contract and unjust enrichment by UF. The lawsuit filed last week in Leon County circuit court by named plaintiff Anthony Rojas seeks class-action status on behalf of students at all 12 state universities. It was filed against the state university systems Board of Governors and seeks refunds of prorated amounts of fees such as technology fees, activities and services fees, athletic fees and transportation fees. While making similar claims of breach of contract and unjust enrichment as the Egleston case, the Rojas lawsuit differs because it does not seek tuition refunds.

But University of Florida Health and The Villages Health officials warn there are signs the virus is only beginning to move into the community. During the drive-up test, UF Health was conducting a voluntary study. They also eventually began showing symptoms like coughing, fatigue and/or loss of taste or smell, according to a release from UF Health. The Villages is an extremely cohesive, socially connected community, said Dr. Elliott Sussman, chairman of the board of The Villages Health and former board chairman of the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Season opener against Miami has Florida players focused
You have to prepare like the season is right around the corner because it really is. We dont have time for errors because we start the season off with a big-time ball game, Hammond said. This almost feels like a must-win game for the Gators if theyre going to have the kind of season theyre anticipating. Whoever wins that game ends up really kicking off the season on the right note with a big win in a big game with a lot of national exposure. Its the fact theyre opening the season against Miami at a neutral site and the college football world will be watching.
