Punxsutawney Phil's town misses Groundhog Day boost

AdโOn a normal Groundhog Day, there are so many festivities and the businesses and restaurants are inundated,โ the Republican said. She said Groundhog Day typically gives local merchants a boost at a time of year when tourism is usually slow. Groundhog Day has its origin in a German legend about a furry rodent.

Punxsutawney Phil may be the most famous groundhog seer but he's certainly not the only one. There are two other high-profile โimposters,โ as the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club calls them, in the region. Connecticut marked Groundhog Day with a hedgehog making the prediction after the stateโs official groundhog, Chuckles X, died last year.
