The Safari Park launched the experimental project Thursday to enrich the everyday life of their six chimpanzees amid a strict lockdown and give them some fun after crowds of visitors disappeared when the zoo closed on Dec 18. Hlavka said the youngest female, โMโ seems to be the chimpanzee to get the most excited about watching the other chimpanzees at the other zoo.

The vaccinations followed a January outbreak of COVID-19 at the zoo's Safari Park. โThat made us realize that our other apes were at risk,โ Nadine Lamberski, chief conservation and wildlife health officer for the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, told the San Diego Union-Tribune.
