ORLANDO, Fla. – A four-way stop sounds pretty self-explanatory, but what happens when you arrive at that four-way stop at the same time as another driver? Sometimes this can get a little confusing, especially when it comes to multiple lanes, multiple cars and the overall functioning of that intersection.
My basic rule is when arriving at a four-way intersection is, first to stop first to go. But when you arrive at the same time as another driver, sometimes things can get a little bit confusing. The law says that if two vehicles are at a stop intersection controlled by a stop sign, the driver to the right always goes first.
Now when it comes to stopping at that intersection, you have to make sure that you are stopping at the stop bar that is on the ground and not where you think you should stop just to so you can try and beat that other driver. Basically, as long as everyone is using patience at any intersection and following the simple rules of the road, we will be in pretty good shape.
