Man struck, killed while walking across Florida Turnpike in Orange County

Fatal crash investigated near Oak Ridge Road

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 29-year-old Orlando man walking across the Florida Turnpike in Orange County was struck and killed Tuesday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The deadly wreck happened in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike, south of State Road 528 and west of Oak Ridge Road.

The FHP said a 2017 Ford Fusion driven by a 36-year-old Apopka man was northbound near mile marker 259 when the Orlando man walked into his direct path.

The car struck the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.

The driver was not injured.

It’s not known why the man was walking across the Turnpike.

An investigation is ongoing.
