DeLAND, Fla. – A 60-year-old Barberville man was killed and a 42-year-old DeLand woman was critically injured Sunday night in a wrong-way, head-on crash in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal wreck happened around 9 p.m. Sunday on Spring Garden Avenue at Glenwood Road, just north of DeLand.

The FHP said the man was driving a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria north in the southbound lane of Spring Garden Avenue when he crashed head-on into a 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport driven by the woman.

The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

The Nissan overturned onto its side after the crash, and the woman was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in critical condition, according to the FHP.
