Markeith Loyd's ex-girlfriend to undergo mental health evaluation

Loyd accused of shooting, killing Sade Dixon, Debra Clayton

ORLANDO, Fla. – A judge on Friday ordered a mental health evaluation for the former girlfriend of accused killer Markeith Loyd, according to her attorney.

The attorney for Jameis Slaughter has argued that Slaughter is not competent to stand trial. Her next status hearing was scheduled for May 22.

In January, Jameis Slaughter, along with Loyd's ex-boss, Zarghee Mayan, and niece, Lakensha Smith-Loyd, were was arrested on allegations of helping Loyd avoid capture after he was accused of fatally shooting his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon, in Pine Hills on Dec. 13. Police said Loyd also killed Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton on Jan. 9 as she was trying to arrest him at a Walmart.

Most of the charges against Slaughter, Mayan and Smith-Loyd were dropped. Slaughter, however, still faces a misdemeanor charge of giving false information to law enforcement.

Slaughter is accused of initially claiming she was her twin sister when she was questioned by investigators about Dixon's death.

A defense attorney for Slaughter has since claimed her client is not competent to stand trial.

According to the motion, Slaughter has been under the care of at least two mental health professionals.
