Orlando police release video of arrest of man after machete attack

He was charged with armed burglary of dwelling with a dangerous weapon

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Police Department has released video of officers arresting the man accused of attacking a security guard with a machete.

The video shows investigators rushing to the scene of Paramount Condos on the 400 block of East Pine Street around 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 31.

The officers smash a glass door with their batons to get in the building.

Investigators see the suspect and the victim in a struggle.

One of the officers used a department issued Taser gun to bring the suspect down during the arrest.

The arrest report shows the security guard told another investigators another security guard was banging on the front door of the lobby because 37-year-old Ricardo Matthews was threatening him.

Investigators said the guard opened the to door to let in his co-worker in but Matthews was able to make his way in as well, according to investigators. Matthews is accused of swinging a machete at the guard. 

The security guard was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center to be treated for multiple lacerations he suffered during the attack, according to police.

Matthews was charged with armed burglary of dwelling with a dangerous weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, battery on a uniformed security officer, false imprisonment and resisting an officer without violence, according to the report.
